Personal information

Character History

Real Name: Unknown, presumably Ynar

Residence: Multi-dimensional space
Occupation: Former Lord of Order, Renegade
First Appearance (Post-Golden Age): The Flash #310 (June 1982)

Ynar's origins are shrouded in antiquity, A Lord of Order, is likely thousands if not tens of thousands of years old.  He was a a contemporary of Nabu but details of such, if true, are unrevealed.

In the early 1980's in Earth-Two time, Dr. Fate sensed a disturbance of world-ending proportions.  Unable to identify a source, he follows a lead to a cornfield in Iowa.  As he studies an ear of corn, he noticed an intense gemstone embedded within.  The farmer who owned the field appears and warns off Fate, who ignores him.  Thinking the farmer simply mortal, Fate casts a holding spell and returns his attention to the gem.  To the mage's surprise the farmer breaks through the spell and sends Fate hurling into another dimension.

Fate lands in a realm known as the Nihli-verse, the sole inhabitant of which is a Lord of Chaos known as Vandaemeon.  The Chaos Lord assaults fate with unrelenting energy, be repelled and dispelled only to re-form and attack again.  After using his strongest spell, Fate believe Vandaemon defeated and reached out his mind to Inza to lead him out of the nihli-verse. Unknown to him, Inza has given in to an adulterous urge and is not in Fate's Tower in Salem for him to connect with.  While he probes, Vandaemon attacks again.   Furiously fending him off Fate flings himself into the realm of Earth-Two and seals the way behind him.

Returning to the Tower, he confronts Inza about her infidelity and she leaves.  After resting, Fate emerges from the Tower and sees the gem from the Iowa cornfield grown enormous and dominating the sky.  He realizes that his battle with Vandaemon had taken place inside the crystal and that the energy expended and helped the Lord of Chaos into the realm of Earth-Two.  As Fate struggled to understand how the balance between Chaos and Order seemed to be ending, the farmer re-appears and sheds his earthly guise, revealing hims to be Ynar, a Lord of Order.

Ynar reveals that he and Vandaemon had formed an unholy pact to abandon their respective clans and disrupt the balance between Order and Chaos, resulting in a bedlam that they alone would rule.  As the world unravels, Inza Nelson returns and seeks to spend the end of the world with her husband,  Fate realizes that the combining three beings - Kent, Inza and himself - into Dr. Fate would be far more powerful, building on the bond between the two humans.  Forging this new form, Dr. Fate returns to confront the two renegade Lords who are taken by surprise by Fate's new power and dispatched to another realm, sealed off from the worlds of men (Flash Comics #310-313),

Whether Ynar returned or was punished by the other Lords of order is unknown.

Powers and Abilities

Ynar, as a Lord of Order, has nearly unlimited powers.  He is ageless and formless, able to adopt any shape he chooses.  He wields fundamental magical forces that can re-shape matter, extend lethal forces, bind and bend material to shape his will and communicate across enormous distances.  The full range of his powers is unknown but is doubtless vast.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Ynar's limitations are primarily confrontation with superior force.  He also suffers from vanity and arrogance, which can lead him to considerable errors of judgement.  His mental stability is arguably questionable.

No version of Ynar is known to exist outside of the Earth-Two timeline.
